Straight answers. If yours isn't here, the fastest way to reach us is from inside the app.

Reach a human. Open Emerit → tap the gear → "Tell me what's missing". That goes straight to the people who build the app, and it carries your app version and device automatically so we don't have to ask.

Add your email in that sheet if you want a reply. Leave it blank and it stays anonymous — we still read it.

Before anything else — free help exists

Emerit is a reference tool. It does not file your claim and it cannot represent you. Your county Veterans Service Officer can do both, and it costs you nothing.

The checks

What is Special Monthly Compensation?

A separate payment on top of your regular disability compensation, for specific losses. It is federal law — 38 CFR 3.350 — not a special program you apply to. Plenty of veterans qualify for SMC-K and never claim it. The most-missed one is loss of use of a creative organ, which includes erectile dysfunction when it was caused by a service-connected condition or its medication.

Why does Emerit need my effective dates?

Because two of the four checks are impossible without them. Back pay is measured from the effective date, and rating protection is measured from it too — the 5-, 10- and 20-year rules all count from the day a rating took effect. Every effective date is in the VA's own app under Benefits → Disability rating, and on your rating decision letter.

My combined rating looks wrong.

VA ratings do not add up. 50% and 30% do not make 80% — they combine to 65, which the VA then rounds to 70%. Emerit shows you the intermediate figure and the rounded one so you can check the arithmetic yourself. The rule is 38 CFR 4.25.

Emerit says I look eligible. Am I?

It is a screening, not a decision. Your rating is decided by a VA examiner, not by this app. What Emerit does is tell you which rule appears to apply to the file you entered, and show you that rule so you can take it to someone who can act on it.

What it costs

What is free?

Everything. The verdicts, the reasoning, every dollar figure, the back pay estimate, the rating-protection countdowns, every deadline clock and the printable packet. There is nothing to buy.

I paid for Emerit before it went free.

Thank you. Update to the latest version and everything is open, no restore needed. If you still have an Emerit Yearly subscription, you can cancel it any time in Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions so it does not renew.

Your data

How do I move to a new phone?

Settings → Export a backup file saves a file you keep. On the new phone, Settings → Import a backup and pick it. Everything comes back.

Because Emerit has no account and no server, that file is the only way to move your file. Export one before you wipe or trade in a phone.

I imported the wrong file. Did I lose everything?

No. A file Emerit does not recognise is rejected and your existing file is left exactly as it was. The app will tell you it did not look like an Emerit backup.

Is my claim information sent anywhere?

No. It is stored on your device and nowhere else. The only thing that ever leaves is feedback you type and send yourself — see the privacy page, which spells out exactly what that includes.

How do I delete everything?

Settings → Erase everything on this device. It asks you to confirm, and it cannot be undone — export a backup first if there is any chance you want it back. Deleting the app also removes the data.

Notifications

I'm not getting deadline reminders.

Check iOS Settings → Notifications → Emerit and make sure they are allowed. If they are off, the app still counts your clocks down correctly — it just cannot tell you about them until you open it.
